A small collection of papers of Oxenbridge Thacher, lawyer and representative to the Mass. General Court from Boston. The papers pertain primarily to the objections raised against taxes levied against the colonies by Great Britain. Among the specific documents are his draft of a petition to Parliament objecting to the duties due to the debt incurred by the colonies during the French and Indian War (1764); a draft of a letter to the provincial agent in London providing an accounting of the war debts incurred since 1746; and instructions for the representatives to the House (15 May 1764). The papers also include a few legal documents regarding cases in Mass.
